About Erin's Family and Their Need

Kim Kane, Erin's mother, is a teacher at the Manteno Elementary School.

Kim is the wife of a City of Kankakee police officer. It takes both salaries to pay their bills. However, due to the numerous hospitalizations, medical expenses going over the $1 million mark, intensive physical therapy and monitoring, Kim has exhausted all paid sick leave and is being docked salary for days she must take care of Erin.

They have altered schedules as much as possible - mom on days, dad on nights to try an be there for Erin as her life depends on it. But that is not always enough.

Together they have four children and their mounting expenses are more than they can bear. It is not easy to care for a child literally 24 x 7.
